Iowa lawmakers are considering legislation (SF2472) that would automatically raise the state fuel tax nearly every year by tying it to the Consumer Price Index without requiring a vote from your elected officials.
This “autopilot” tax increase would add to the financial pressure already facing Iowa families and businesses as they deal with higher costs for groceries, housing, and everyday expenses, pushing Iowa closer to the high-fuel-tax model of states like California and Illinois.
Tax hikes should never happen on automatic; they deserve public debate and accountability through a direct legislative vote.
